Going down on "Worthington Johnson?" Yes, names like that do feature prominently in my prep-school fantasies. Cf. The Goodwillie statue at University School. Ohio.

Yes, there is something about those childhood friendships - a bonding during our formative years that is so different from anything that comes after - so much-more intimate, innocent and based on truth before we start registering the impact of our words and deeds - just the very real un-critiqued US. As we age and look back with nostalgia, it becomes more and more spiritual - almost a holy thing.

Fascinating story. One correction: David Pitts says that Larry Quirk was Photoplay's editor. Larry is the author of numerous film books, but it was his uncle James R. Quirk who was editor of Photoplay.

Hmm. So Jackie had to see other women coming in to fulfil the physical side of things for her husband, and a best friend to fulfil the emotional side...I guess she had a lot of time to spend with her dress designer.

It seems touching to hear about such a long term friendship, but you can't help but wonder if a tiny bit of it could have been a bit self centred...I mean keeping a gay friend who you know is in love with you from moving on...but this is based on knowing nothing other than what just read above, so just an idea.
